Mannu started practicing Yoga in 2010. but it wasn’t until 2012 that he dived deep into the Ashtanga method and from then onwards he has continued an uninterrupted daily practice.

Ever since, the practice has been the center of his life. In 2014 he moved to Asia thus making it it easier for himself to go back to Mysore, India every year and study at KPJAYI with his guru
Sharath Jois.

Currently Mannu teaches an ongoing Ashtanga Yoga  Mysore program in an intimate setting in his own home, Jangalika🌱, House of Ashtanga Yoga; in the paradisiac island of Koh Phangan, Thailand.

Otherwise Mannu can be found either studying in Mysore, India or practising and sometimes assisting with his teacher Iain Gryzak in Ubud, Bali.

The Practice

Sri K Pattabhi Jois

Ashtanga Yoga is a system of Hatha Yoga developed by the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in the south Indian city of Mysore.

The system’s philosophical background is based on Patanjali’s “Yoga Sutras”, an eight fold method for stilling the mind and turning all the organs of sensation inwards.

The physical aspect of the practice is rooted in the Vinyasa method for practising asana discovered by Jois and his teacher Sri. Tirumalai Krishnamacharya in an ancient and obscure text called “The Yoga Korunta”.

Jois developed a total of six sequences that are learned in a progressive and linear manner and are taught to the student one pose at a time. Once the student has shown proficiency and steadiness of mind, breath and body in the pose; the next one is taught. Each one of these poses requires a level of strength and flexibility that increases as the student advances through the sequences. In this way, each pose prepares the body and mind for the next one and no student will ever be asked to try a pose that he hasn’t been prepared for.

Pattabhi Jois founded the KPJAYI (Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute) in Mysore India where he taught until he left his body in 2009. Since then, his grandson Sharath Jois took over the institute and the lineage, teaching in the same way he was taught by his grand father for more than 25 years.

Sharath Jois

Serious and dedicated students of this method pilgrimage every year to the KPJAYI in Mysore to practice under Sharath’s tutelage.

Only the most dedicated and devoted students receive Sharath’s blessing to teach either as an Authorised (Level I or II) or a Certified teacher. No other person or organisation has the authority to entitle anyone as a teacher in the Ashtanga Yoga Tradition.

JANGALIKA: House of Ashtanga Yoga

jângal m (plural jângales)

jungle (large, undeveloped, humid forest)

JANGALIKA is not a Yoga studio. This is the place where I live practice, study and teach Ashtanga Yoga.

A few years ago I realized that I couldn’t work in or for “Yoga studios” anymore. Most of these places (certainly there  are a few exceptions out there) compromise teachings for numbers: Number of students, number of different styles, number of teachers, number of sales and profits. Usually, in these places, the teaching; if it is considered at all, is the last on the priority list.

After teaching in a rented space for more than a year I was blessed to find this beautiful house in the jungle that is more supportive and conducing to my Sadhana, an austere and tranquil lifestyle and a beautiful Ashtanga Yoga Shala.

Love and Happiness,
